Abstract

We have demonstrated the ability to selectively modify the mode structure of a multimoded photonic crystal laser cavity, based on the detailed knowledge of resonant modes in a suspended membrane D3 microcavity. We have designed a microcavity in which the margins between the highest Q mode and the next highest Q modes have been increased. This modified cavity has been shown to have an improved sidemode suppression ratio under high power pumping condition.
