A native of Costa Rica, Víctor Pérez Vargas’s own research interests are in the area
of private law. He obtained his law degree with honours at the Universidad de Costa Rica,
where he holds a distinguished chair in private law and teaches commercial transactions.
He studied literature at the Instituto de Cultura Hispanica de Madrid, and earned a
doctor of laws degree from the Università degli Studi di Messina, in Italy. He completed
his postgraduate studies at the Università di Pisa. He has visited at the Universidad
Externado de Colombia, the Universidad Central de Venezuela, the Universidad Autónoma de
Managua, the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos de Lima, the Universidad de Buenos
Aires, the Universitá degli studi di Roma "Tor Vergata", Yale Law School and
Tulane University Law School. He edits the Revista Judicial. A small sample of his
