Sukhatme is interested in microeconomics and the economic prospects of developing
countries. He teaches courses on microeconomic theory, economic development and a survey
course on the work of Adam Smith and Karl Marx. Sukhatme was given the college's
Thomas Jefferson Award in 2002 for lifetime teaching, research and service contributions
to the college. He is also a former World Bank economist.
