Response to Nehal Bhuta - Hamstrung Justice

Susan Harris Rimmer

Abstract

This paper considers difficulties in prosecuting violators of human rights in East Timor and Indonesia. It argues that important conditions that need to be addressed before any meaningful trials can take place include the need for strong political will, in both Indonesia and East Timor, and greater experience on the part of the judiciary in dealing with such proceedings, as well as access to sufficient resources.
