Surfacing Gender in the Constitution of Timor Leste

Susan Harris Rimmer, The Australia National University

Abstract

This chapter will proceed in two parts to address the question of how gender issues are relevant to the Constitution of Timor-Leste. I will first attempt a more traditional style of gender analysis that focuses on some of the explicit references to women and gender in the Constitution. The second part of the argument will focus on surfacing gender issues in the in the Constitution that are not so apparent on first reading.
