About Steven M. Cutchin

Dr. Steve Cutchin joined the faculty of the Department of Computer Sciences at Boise State University in 2013. He has a Ph.D. in computer science from Purdue University, and extensive research and industry experience in the fields of computer graphics, scientific visualization, and computer science. Since the completion of his doctorate, he has worked on a variety of diverse research projects. At Disney Feature Animation, he helped to develop tools for mixing 2D and 3D animation models within a single workflow tool. At the San Diego Supercomputer Center (University of California-San Diego), he was involved in projects adapting gaming engines to support science education for middle school girls, large scale renderings of multi-terabyte data sets, and the computation of the 3D shape of the human immunoglobulin protein from in-vitro sample data. In 2008, UCSD entered into collaboration with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia, and Dr. Cutchin worked there to help install and manage a 25 million dollar visualization research facility. His research interests include collaborative virtual environments, serious games and gaming environments, photo-realistic immersion, techniques for non-locking distributed sharing, ultra-high resolution display environments, interactive gaming environments for science education, high dynamic range lighting within visualization environments, ultra-high resolution media display environments, and video systems for multi-panel environments.
