Abstract

Libraries’ digital collections may reflect their institution’s mission and priorities as well as the vagaries of past collection development decisions. But collections can also be strategically selected to relate directly to departmental and college curricula. Our two presenters describe working collegially with faculty to build digital collections that both serve their teaching needs and enhance their students’ access to unique instructional resources.

Stephanie Davis-Kahl, Illinois Wesleyan University, will discuss the development and creation of the Swahili Expressive Arts collection. The collection is made up of images from Professor Rebecca Gearhart’s research in Kenya, and is directly tied to her teaching at IWU.
