Abstract

The present study is an evaluation of the food-for-work component of Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojana (SGRY) in Satara, Aurangabad, Gadchiroli and Akola districts of Maharashtra. SGRY was launched all over the country in 2001 with twin objectives - to provide wage employment and food security and to create durable community, social and economic infrastructure. The specific objectives of the present study are: (i) To assess the efficacy and effectiveness of food for work programme in terms of planning, implementation and monitoring. (ii) To examine the allocation, off take and distribution of foodgrains at different levels of implementation. (iii) To assess the quantity, quality, frequency and timeliness of distribution of food grains. (iv) And, to identify constraints, if any, in implementation of the scheme and suggest remedial measures.
