I am interested in all aspects of clinical cardiology in both small and large animals, including echocardiography, electrocardiography, and interventional procedures such as pacemaker implantation, patent ductus arteriosus occlusion, balloon valvuloplasty, and heartworm extraction. My particular expertise lies in equine cardiology, with a special concentration on the cardiac assessment of athletic performance. I have a range of research experiences, including clinical projects (cardiac output in horses, the use of cardiac troponins as biomarkers in horses), translational projects (characterizing the electrophysiology in dogs with inherited ventricular arrhythmias), and basic projects ( assessing the cardiac progenitor cell response to myocardial injury).

DiDiego, S Hemsely, B G. Kornreich, G Hooker, C Antzelevitch, and N S. Moïse), Journal of Veterinary Cardiology (2013)
OBJECTIVE: To further characterize arrhythmic mechanisms in German shepherd dogs (GSDs) affected with inherited ventricular...
c-kit+ precursors support postinfarction myogenesis in the neonatal, but not adult, heart. (with M. A. Steffey, F. K. Lee, M. Breitbach, M. Hesse, S. Reining, J. C. Lee, R. M. Doran, A. Y. Nikitin, B. K. Fleischmann, and M. I. Kotlikoff), Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (2012)
We examined the myogenic response to infarction in neonatal and adult mice to determine the...
An accessory bypass tract masked by the presence of atrial fibrillation in a horse (with M S. Kraus, A L. Johnson, A R. Gelzar, and J Bartol), Journal of Veterinary Cardiology (2011)
Accessory bypass tracts are rarely documented in horses. Here, we present a case of an...
