Abstract
In this column we defend the ruling of the European Court of Human Rights in the Lautsi v. Italy case (Nov. 3, 2009) which prohibits Italy to expose crucifixes in the classrooms of public schools. This ruling was heavily criticised by officials of the Vatican and other spokespersons of the catholic church, who argued that obviously from now on only Halloween would be tolerated, and Christmas and Easter might be abolished as public holidays. To us, this is an amagamation : we replied that the Court never said such thing, and that the ruling would not endanger Santa Claus ...
