Dr Sallie Newell BSc(Hons)Psychology(ELond) PhD(Newcastle(NSW)) 

Sallie Newell is a Senior Research Officer with the Centre for Children & Young
People. Her primary responsibility is to oversee the preparation, implementation and
reporting of the Centre’s numerous project planning and evaluation consultancies. She
also contributes to the Centre’s strategic planning processes and funding applications.
Sallie has an honours degree in Psychology, a PhD in behavioural science and over 15
years' postgraduate research and evaluation experience across a wide range of
fields. She has produced many journal publications, conference papers and reports; has
secured grants from various funding bodies; and acts as a reviewer for national and
international journals, conferences and granting bodies. 

Sallie’s main area of research interest is the social determinants of health &
wellbeing across the lifespan, with a particular emphasis on the crucial role of early
childhood experiences and relationships on individuals’ developmental, educational,
psychosocial, health & wellbeing outcomes throughout their lives – with a positive
childhood ultimately resulting in improved participation & success within the
education system, the workforce, personal relationships and community involvement.
Sallie’s other main passion is working with organisations to help develop their
understanding, skills and confidence in using research evidence and practical,
commonsense evaluation techniques to plan, develop and continuously monitor & improve
their services.
