Abstract
Resilience as an element of sustainability is gaining prominence in the body of literature. The discourse includes methods to ensure that citizens are aware of its importance and the contribution people can make to ensure a sustainable community. The purpose of this review is to discuss the role of resilience in sustainability and the different indicators that can contribute and help foster the development of a sustainable community. Here we address community resilience to disaster; social capital as an indicator of a sustainable community and the impact of natural and technological hazards as tools to implement changes in existing infrastructure.
