About Richard Grigg

Richard Grigg, Ph.D. taught at Sacred Heart University from 1985 to 2020, retiring at the rank of full Professor which he held for many years. Professor Grigg passed away November 21st, 2022. A highly regarded and effective teacher, he accumulated a body of scholarship, creative works, teaching excellence and a record of commendable service. Dr. Grigg published nine books with respected academic publishers including SUNY Press, Fortress Press, Continuum Press, and the American Academy of Religion Press. He published thirteen articles in several of the most reputable academic journals in religious studies. For these accomplishments, Rick was twice awarded Sacred Heart’s Faculty Award for Distinguished Scholarship.
 
Rick served as the program director of the Master of Arts in Religious Studies program for two decades and served several stints on the Committee on Rank and Tenure, among other university committees. In 1992, he presented a paper to the faculty titled “What is the Catholic Intellectual Tradition?” later published in the Sacred Heart University Review and which served as a foundation for faculty workshops on the CIT and was included as a reading for students in earlier versions of the Human Journey core curriculum.
