Huener's research interests focus on pre-World War I commercial advertising
stamps, in which she explores the relatively unknown medium of the Reklamemarke and
analyzes its social as well as commercial mediations. 

Her interest in visual cultural and specifically commercial art have strongly motivated
her implementation of computer-based multimedia in her German Studies courses. 

She teaches a wide range of German Studies courses, in particular cultural history, 19th
and 20th century German literature, and early film.
