Dr Vial graduated from University of Wollongong with his BE (Elect) in 1987 while
working for BHP Slab and Plate Products (now Blue Scope Steel) from 1981 to 1991. He
completed a Masters in Telecommunications in 1997 on ‘Congestion Control in the Presence
of Propagation Delay in Frame Relay Networks’. This was followed by a Diploma of
Education specialising in High School Mathematics through 1999-2000. Starting in 1992, Dr
Vial worked as an Associate Lecturer at UOW and was promoted to Lecturer in 2004. He
completed his PhD on ‘Space Time Spreading Systems applied to Ultra Wideband Time Hopping
Pulse Position Modulation dual antenna / single receiver MIMO systems’ in 2009
