Dr Vial graduated from University of Wollongong with his BE (Elect) in 1987 while working for BHP Slab and Plate Products (now Blue Scope Steel) from 1981 to 1991. He completed a Masters in Telecommunications in 1997 on ‘Congestion Control in the Presence of Propagation Delay in Frame Relay Networks’. This was followed by a Diploma of Education specialising in High School Mathematics through 1999-2000. Starting in 1992, Dr Vial worked as an Associate Lecturer at UOW and was promoted to Lecturer in 2004. He completed his PhD on ‘Space Time Spreading Systems applied to Ultra Wideband Time Hopping Pulse Position Modulation dual antenna / single receiver MIMO systems’ in 2009 Field of Study: Wireless communication systems and network management Professional Activities and Affiliations: • Senior Member of IEEE • Member of APESMA • Member of the Emerging Networks and Applications Laboratory within ICTR • UOW ACORN representative 2008-2011 Current Research Students: • Luke Gleeson : Genetic Algorithms for Embedded System • Mohammad Alanazi : Radar Signal Processing • Ahmed Moftah Ownalla Alshabo : Ultra Wideband channels indoor communications with multiple antennas • Asama Alshaibi : Power saving mechanisms in wireless sensor Adhoc networks • Zied Zubi : Optimisation of Delay Tolerant Networks and Wireless Adhoc networks • Qasim Al Shebani : Face Recognition Using Embedded System • Tianle Liu : Multi-Input and Multi Output Systems over Software Defined Radio
