She built on that practice experience with her PhD on sport development processes and practice in Australia. Dr Sotiriadou has made a significant contribution to understanding sport development through her involvement with international conference presentations as well as workshops that allowed both academics and practitioners to consider current sport development practices. She has published her work in refereed journals, such as the Journal of Sport Management and the International Journal of Sport Management and she developed a course on Planning for Sport Policy and Development for the Deakin University sport management/sport development program. Her PhD has gained such acceptance that she has been invited to consult the ASC and Cycling Australia on sport development. Her previous research on sport development pathways, organisational structures and strategic management, and sport facility management illustrates her knowledge and experience in the areas of sport devolvement, planning and facility management and demonstrate her expertise in quantitative and qualitative data analysis. In 2006, Dr Sotiriadou was nominated for the University of Technology Sydney Alumni Professional Achievement Award and in 2008 she became a SMAANZ board member.
