Dr Sotiriadou started life as a professional athlete. She built on that practice
experience with her PhD on sport development processes and practice in Australia. Dr
Sotiriadou has made a significant contribution to understanding sport development through
her involvement with international conference presentations as well as workshops that
allowed both academics and practitioners to consider current sport development practices.
She has published her work in refereed journals, such as the Journal of Sport Management
and the International Journal of Sport Management and she developed a course on Planning
for Sport Policy and Development for the Deakin University sport management/sport
development program. Her PhD has gained such acceptance that she has been invited to
consult the ASC and Cycling Australia on sport development. Her previous research on
sport development pathways, organisational structures and strategic management, and sport
facility management illustrates her knowledge and experience in the areas of sport
devolvement, planning and facility management and demonstrate her expertise in
quantitative and qualitative data analysis. In 2006, Dr Sotiriadou was nominated for the
University of Technology Sydney Alumni Professional Achievement Award and in 2008 she
became a SMAANZ board member.
