Religious Convictions: The Law of Blasphemy in Ireland
Abstract
This article examines Ireland’s new blasphemy law in its historical, constitutional, and European context and analyzes its interpretational difficulties. It also argues that domestic and international blasphemy laws not only fail to solve the problems of religious persecution and discrimination but also contribute to the rise of religious extremism and its concomitant human rights abuses.
