About Patrick Scott

My research is now chiefly on Scottish literature, with some continuing interest in Victorian poetry. Since 2012 (vol. 37), I have been joint-editor of Studies in Scottish Literature, and I also edit other publication series associated with the journal and the Roy Collection. For general information, see also: https://sc.edu/study/colleges_schools/artsandsciences/english_language_and_literature/our_people/directory/scott_patrick.php
The list below is arranged by broad categories, each with the most recent items first, starting with Scottish literature, followed by earlier work in Victorian literature (subdivided into Tennyson, Clough, and Other Victorian Topics), and then African literature, Bibliography (including Rare Books, Librarianship), History of English Studies (Rhetoric, History of Rhetoric), Library exhibitions (where a catalogue or brochure has been digitized), Obituaries & Memorial Addresses, Other.
In addition to articles, recent work includes:Poems by a Lady (co-edited, 2023), the first-ever edition of the manuscript poems by Helen Craik (1751-1825), long thought to have been lost; Robert Louis Stevenson: A Documentary Volume (2021); Robert Burns: A Documentary Volume (2018); The Kilmarnock Burns: A Census (coauthored, 2017); Selected Essays on Robert Burns by G. Ross Roy (coedited, 2018); an essay collection The Ghost at the Feast (edited 2020); a coedited online edition of writings by the Scottish/South Carolinian poet Gavin Turnbull (2015); and two titles in Scottish Poetry Reprints, the 1789 chapbook edition of Burns's The Prayer of Holy Willie (2015) and a selection of Turnbull's Scottish poems, A Bard Unkend (also 2015).
Ongoing projects (some collaborative) include: an edition of G.D. Brown's shorter writings; an edition of James Hogg's Memoir of Robert Burns, for the Stirling-South Carolina Edition of James Hogg; an annotated checklist of letters written to Robert Burns; a series or collection of essays on Burns manuscripts;and a research project on the printer John Wilson of Kilmarnock that has segued into one on Burns and Book History.
