About Patrick Shay

Born in Pennsylvania but primarily raised in Texas, Patrick is a double-graduate of Trinity University (2003 and 2005) and worked for nearly five years as a health care administrator for a post-acute health care system in San Antonio, Texas before pursuing a doctoral education at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. As a doctoral student, Patrick studied health services organization and research and served as a co-instructor for an introductory course on the U.S. health care system for undergraduate students. Patrick’s primary research interests include examination of the post-acute care sector, organization theory, and local hospital systems’ varying levels of differentiation and integration in their components and configurations. He is a proud Trinity Tiger who is thrilled to be back in San Antonio working with our esteemed faculty and students to better understand and advance the provision of health care services.
