Orit Eylon, Mezzo soprano is an Assistant Professor of Voice and received a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin and her MM and BM degrees from Indiana University. In 2005 Dr. Eylon was invited by the University of Texas at El Paso as a visiting assistant professor of voice, pedagogy and voice class. Since her relocation, Dr. Eylon became a frequent performer with the El Paso Opera. The Roles she performed with EPO include Antonia's Mother in Tales of Hoffmann, Flora in La Traviata, Il Zelatrice in Suor Angelica , Inez in Il Trovatore as well as Third Lady in Magic Flute. Her Flora was considered by the El Paso Times, “ A First-rate contribution to the success of La Traviata” in October of 2006. Other operatic roles perfomed include First and Second Lady in The Magic Flute, Antigonae in Carl Orff’s Antigonae, Zita in Gianni Schicchi, Larina in Eugene Onegin, and Arnalta in Coronation of Poppea to name a few. With the Austrian American Mozart Academy in Salzburg, Austria, she performed the leading roles of Countess in Marriage of Figaro and Vitellia in Clemenza di Tito and served as faculty for the 2006 program. In addition to Austria, Dr. Eylon has performed extensively as a recitalist in Italy and Germany and was recently invited to present and perform at the Academy of the Performing Arts (Hong Kong) and Hong Kong University in the fall of 2007. As a regular guest soloist at St. Mark's Methodist church, B'nai Zion Synagogue, Temple Mount Sinai, and the Bruce Nehring consort, she perfomed several works including Handel’s Messiah and Mozart’s Requiem. Her powerful, yet lustrious voice is enjoyed widely across the city and beyond the Mexican Border. Dr. Eylon is also a demo CD recording artist for publishing companies. Her excellence in teaching and contributions to the local community has recently been featured in a local bi-lingual publication, the Minero. Additionally,She is currently the president of the Rio Grande Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and is a sought-after judge for UIL (University Interscholastic League), TMEA (Texas Music Educators Association) as well as solo and ensemble contests in New Mexico and Texas.
