About Nick R. Abel

Nicholas Abel is an Associate Professor of School Counseling at Butler University.

Dr. Abel joined the faculty at Butler University in 2013.  He specializes in school counseling and primarily teaches courses in the College of Education's Master of Science in School Counseling program.  Before coming to Butler, Dr. Abel worked for almost 9 years as a professional school counselor at the elementary and high school levels.  He earned his Ed.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Minnesota State University - Mankato in 2013 following completion of his dissertation titled, Academic Resilience in African American & Latina(o) High School Students: A Study of GPA, Emotional Intelligence, & Perceptions of Discrimination.  Dr. Abel is interested in research that furthers the profession of school counseling, including the efficacy of specific interventions and school counseling models.
