Michael's research activities and publications lie mainly in human resource
management. Recently he has been increasingly involved in collaborative team research and
publication through the Centre for Change Management (previously known as the BHP Steel
Institute Management Program). He is currently working on a new project relating to
Comparative HRM and Organizational Change in the Asia Pacific. Michael is the Head of the
Employment Relations Discipline in the School of Management and Marketing at the
University of Wollongong. When he joined the University he brought with him extensive
experience in personnel management, having worked as Personnel Manager for a major
national retailer for a number of years and a management consultant prior to that. He is
an active member of professional bodies, being involved as an organiser and presenter at
conferences, including the International Employment Relations Association Conference held
in Wollongong in 1998, and as an academic referee for professional journals such as the
Asia Pacific Journal of Human Resources and the International Employment Relations
Review. Michael is also an active member of the University, particularly in areas
relating to OH&S. He has been a member of the Academic Senate since 1997.
