A native of the Dominican Republic, Mónika Infante Henríquez's own burgeoning
research is mostly about how economics can be applied to legal subjects such as antitrust
and public utility regulation and contracts. She earned two master's degrees in law,
one from the University of Chicago, another in law and economics from Utrecht University,
in the Netherlands. She graduated recently with a doctor of law degree summa cum laude
from the Universidad Iberoamericana. She clerked for Chief Justice of the Supreme Court
of the Dominican Republic Jorge Subero Isa, and was an associate attorney with the firm
Squire Sanders & Dempsey LLP. In Santo Domingo, she teaches competition law and law
and economics at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra, where she directs
the masters program in regulatory law. She is on the faculty at the Alben W. Barkley
School of Law, and lectures in the law and economics program for law professors at the
Universidad Empresarial del siglo XXI in Argentina. In 2004, she founded the Asociación
Dominicana de Promoción y Protección de la Libre Competencia, an entity that promotes
competition and regulatory reform in the Dominican Republic, where she also directs the
Fundación para el Avance de las Matemáticas.
