Qualifications Graduate Certificate in Higher Education - University of Canberra Bachelor of Arts (Television Directing) - Australian Film Telvision & Radio School Bachelor of English - Curtin University Associate Professor Michael Sergi was appointed Director of Film and Television in December 2008, after 13 years as the principal film and television lecturer at the University of Canberra. Having graduated from Curtin University with a faculty award Michael was selected to undertake the fulltime directing course at AFTRS. He spent three years learning from some of the world's best directors, including Philip Noyce, Alan Parker, Norman Jewison and Mike Liegh. Michael has directed over 100 hours of television drama in Australia and New Zealand, including Home & Away, Neighbours, Pacific Drive, Breakers and Shortland Street. Michael has produced, written and directed many short films, documentaries, TV commercials and music videos, and his commissioned work for corporate clients has won numerous awards. In 1995, Michael co-founded the Canberra International Film Festival, and was its artistic director for 13 years. He was the Vice-Chair of the ACT Film and Television Council, he held the Film Position on the ACT Cultural Council, and was the ACT representative of the Australian Directors Guild. Michael's published works include a chapter in the book, Tertiary Teaching: Doing it Differently, Doing it Better; How Reality Bites: The production of Australian Soap Operas, with Peter Dodds in Media International Australia, and Evaluating short-term and long-term peer assessment of Student Teamwork in e-Journal of Business Education & Scholarship of Teaching.
