Abstract

This monograph is a report of trials to grow oysters, Crassostrea tulipa, in Taylor Float plastic mesh culture bags in oyster harvesting sites in Gambia, West Africa. Oysters grew well in the gear, but adoption of the gear by local oyster farmers would be difficult due to the relatively high cost of the gear in relation to the value of oysters cultured within. Economic analysis suggested an eight-year investment payback to recover costs of the gear.
