Professor Walter is the Director of the Law School's highly acclaimed Legal
Writing Program. Her book, Writing and Analysis in the Law (revised 5th ed., 2008) (with
H. Shapo and E. Fajans), is the most widely used first-year legal writing text for law
students. She is also the co-author of Sourcebook on Legal Writing Programs (1997). She
has been a leader in her field, serving as a member of the board of the Legal Writing
Institute, chairing the AALS Section on Legal Writing, Analysis, and Research, and
serving on the American Bar Association’s Committee on Communication Skills. Before she
joined the faculty in 1980, Professor Walter was a Legal Writing Instructor at New York
University School of Law and a staff attorney at the National Employment Law Project.
