DART -- Developmental Resource for teachers : liking literacy instruction to assessment

Margaret Forster, ACER

Abstract

DART provides a model for thematic assessment materials which address a wide range of literacy outcomes, using a range of appropriate assessment methods. DART supplements ongoing informal classroom assessments by providing teachers with observational opportunities which have been carefully designed and tested in classrooms. Different kinds of responses that can be expected of students have been identified and teachers are shown how to interpret these responses in terms of the strands and levels of the English profile. DART provides teachers with report forms which assist them to keep efficient records of student literacy achievement and to communicate effectively with other teachers, students and parents.
