Developmental assessment principles and practice

Margaret Forster, ACER

Abstract

At all levels of the education system teachers are being challenged to attend closely to assessment and reporting procedures - to monitor student progress against development frameworks, to assess students against a wide range of learning outcomes, and to provide evidence supporting their judgements of student achievement. This article outlines the principles of developmental assessment and explores one method - focused classroom observations - for assembling evidence of student achievement.
