Abstract

Directive 2005/29/EC approximates the laws of the Member States on unfair commercial practices, including unfair advertising, which directly harm consumers' economic interests and thereby indirectly harm the economic interests of legitimate competitors. In order to ease the application and interpretation of this Directive, the European Commission has published the following documents: the Communication to the European Parliament, the Council and the European Economic and Social Committee “On the application of the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive: Achieving a high level of consumer protection - Building trust in the Internal Market”; and the First Report on the application of Directive 2005/29/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 May 2005 concerning unfair business-to-consumer commercial practices in the internal market.
