About Linda Vee Weiland

Linda Weiland has been working with Embry Riddle since 1994, starting as an Adjunct, then a Campus Director and currently a Fulltime Faculty in the College of Aeronautics. She is currently the Assistant Program Chair of the Bachelor of Science in Aviation Maintenance (BSAvM) degree. She also works closely with both the Undergraduate and Graduate Departments in courses for Air Traffic Management (ATM). She developed a global focused master’s Course in ATM and an undergraduate class in ATM Human Factors for the ATM Minor in the Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics (BSA). She teaches all the courses in the ATM Minor and teaches many of the Master of Aviation Maintenance (MAVM) courses.

Linda is currently a part time Ph.D. student at the University of Witwatersrand in the School of Mechanical, Industrial and Aeronautical Engineering, Johannesburg, South Africa. Her topic of interest is Resilience of communication in ATM, with a focus on aeronautical and industrial engineering methodologies and theoretical framework.

She serves on committees throughout the university, and currently serves as an elected Faculty Senator. often reviews articles for aviation journals to include Air traffic Control Association (ATCA) and has been on several Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) panels.  She works with high schools and colleges around the world in Robotics, and STEM endeavors. Linda is the current Outreach Coordinator of the Women in Aviation International (WAI) ERAU Worldwide Virtual Chapter working closely with ERAU, WAI and girls in South Africa. She also is active in Zonta, as a member, past Honolulu President, Area Director, and current District 9 Leadership Development Coordinator. Linda is also a member and Past President of American Association of University Women (AAUW) Honolulu. Professional memberships include ATCA and IEEE.

Linda's certifications include FAA Control Tower Operator (CTO), Defense acquisition certified. DAWIA level II Acquisition AQD, Manufacturing, and Production. DAWIA Acquisition Professional Community APC, APM fully qualified. DAWIAI level I logistics support, and logistics maintenance.

Prior to Fulltime employment at ERAU, she worked as a Liaison Engineer and Director of Project Management at a major airline for five years. Linda is a decorated retired US Navy Lieutenant Commander with 26 year of service. She spent 10 years as an enlisted Air Traffic Controller. Then when she completed her BSA Degree with ERAU, she was selected to Officer Candidates School and commissioned as a Naval Officer. She spent two years as a Manpower Specialist in Aviation and 14 years as an Aircraft Maintenance Duty Officer. She logged about 20 hours in the Backseat of the TA-4 and finished her Naval Career Forward Deployed as a Maintenance Officer for FA-18’s aboard the USS Kitty Hawk.

She has published articles and given presentations in aviation related fields internationally, often with faculty and students. She is interested in global research in, ATM, resilience, human factors, aeronautical and industrial engineering, Collaborative Decision Making (CDM), academic technology, diversity, and inclusion in aviation. She has also served on several national aviation panels and committees.
