This chapter provides an overview of elements of effective services for women as identified in an exploratory study conducted by the author of this article. Service areas include (1) Medical Care/Health Care Issues; (2) Emotional/Psychosocial Issues; (3) Life Skills; (4) Partner and Parenting Issues and (5) Culturally Specific/ Population Specific Services. General themes that emerged in the research project and implications for providers of alcohol recovery services are discussed.
