Mathematical Inhibitions and Reality: Riding the Wave of Rigor (Invited Presentation)
Abstract
How is school mathematics like real mathematics? In particular, what are some ways that we can attend to the Reasoning & Proof Standard (NCTM, 2000) in our work with high school and college students? These two questions serve to focus an exploration of mathematical rigor in teaching mathematics. Come and explore the mathematical realities and possibilities associated with engaging all students in ‘real’ algebra and beyond.
