Dickinson Law's Contexts & Competencies Course: A "One-Pager" for NALP

Abstract
This one-page handout was distributed at the NALP (National Association of Law Placement) 2018 Annual Education Conference. This Handout supplemented the slides about Penn State Dickinson Law's required first year course called "Practicing Law in a Global World: Contexts & Competencies" that were part of 2018 NALP education session entitled "Preparing Students to Practice: Cutting Edge Professional Development Curriculums." (The program was moderated by Kate McBride from Notre Dame; speakers included Elisabeth Beal, Assistant Dean, Office of Career Services from William & Mary Law School; Amy Hancock, former Director of Professional Development at Andrews Kurth LLP; and Allison Regan, Assistant Dean Law Alumni Relations, University of Houston Law Center.

The April 27, 2018 NALP educational program session highlighted information found in NALP's publication entitled "Professional Development in Law Schools: The Who, What, How, And Why of Law School PD Featuring 40 Case Studies from 40 Law Schools." This document, which requires NALP log-in credentials to access, includes lengthy information about Penn State Dickinson Law's course, include a four-page overview of Dickinson's program, as well as copies of the 2018 course syllabus and assessment exercises, including the required Portfolio assignment and the three required informational interviews with lawyers.
