My passion has always been for children: teaching, loving, and enjoying. Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. (Prov. 22:6) I am married to Glen DeWitt and we have two children, Kara (and husband Walker) and Tristan. We reside in Lynchburg, Virginia. If I am not with students or family, you can find me at the beach relaxing in a lawn chair enjoying the serenity of the ocean.

I completed my masters degree in Education at The University of Mary Washington and my doctorate degree in Literacy Education at George Mason University. My teaching career began in public school where I taught high school, both in English and special education, and summer literacy programs in middle and elementary schools. My research interests are in the areas of literacy for all learners, differentiation, culturally responsive teaching practices and supporting urban communities. My spiritual growth continues as the Lord sends me on new adventures in teaching here at Liberty University.

The DeWitt family are an avid sports fan especially in baseball and Steelers football. I found the gift of service and teaching as part of my relationship with Christ through my spiritual gifts. I teach small groups and work with high school students at my local church. Annually I take a group of students to Jamaica to observe and teach in local schools.. My life verse is Proverbs 3:5-6… Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight…

My ultimate goal as a teacher is to provide students a role model, one that students find a sense of acceptance and integrity. I believe no lesson can be taught without first gaining respect. I want my students to think and interact and question. Not everyone is the same, even in a world of educational, high-stakes testing demands. Each path to the goal may be different, as God has intended. Adaptability, diversification, reflexiveness needs to be anticipated. I challenge and encourage students to go beyond what is common and push for a new or better understanding.
