Dr. Kingsley C Anukam is presently a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology, University of Western Ontario and a Research Fellow, Canadian Research & Development Centre for Probiotics, Lawson Health Research Institute, London, Ontario, Canada. Before now in April 2006, he had an academic appointment in a private university-Benson Idahosa University (BIU), Benin City, Nigeria as Lecturer in the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Basic & Applied sciences. He got his first degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences (Medical Microbiology and parasitology)with second class upper division from the University of Calabar, Nigeria. In addition he got two masters degree from the University of Benin, Nigeria (M.Sc.-Pharmaceutical Microbiology-Antimicrobial agents and Chemotherapy;& MHPM-Health planning and Management) and finally a terminal Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Pharmaceutical Microbiology, from the University of Benin, Nigeria,(2001-2005)/Lawson Health Research Institute, University of Western Ontario, London, Canada (2004). His research interests are in antimicrobial agents and chemotherapy, probiotics, clinical trials and laboratory diagnostics. While most clinical microbiologists in Nigeria focus their research efforts only on pathogens and they go after them with antibiotics, they pay little or no attention to the normal microbiota of the vagina and gastrointestinal tract. Dr. Kingsley Anukam focused his research efforts on bacterial organisms that make people healthy. He is one of the few acclaimed probiotic research scientists from Africa. Dr. Anukam has over 30 peer-reviewed research publications in both national and international journals. He is married to Augustina Chinyere, a guidance counsellor graduate from University of Nigeria. They are blessed with two boys ( Gregor Chibuike and David Akachukwu).
