One Year Underground, Reminiscences of a Trammer’s Helper
Abstract
Reminiscences of Clyde Randell during his one year spent underground as a 3rd generation miner, working as a trammer's helper at the Centennial #2 copper mine near Calumet, Michigan in 1961 and 1962. Article includes specific details about the work that was performed by an entry-level miner, the socioeconomic factors and career options of a Finnish-American living in Northern Michigan's "Copper Country," and the push and pull factors of both becoming a miner and leaving this avocation for other opportunities.
