Professor Kathleen Lugosch joined the University of Massachusetts in 1995. Upon her appointment she was asked to direct the fledging program of architecture. Professor Lugosch, with colleagues from across the university, organized the University of Massachusetts Program in Architecture + Design. This program and degree, now accredited by the National Architectural Accreditation Board, established the University of Massachusetts as the first public university in New England to offer the accredited degree of Master of Architecture. In 1986, Ms Lugosch founded Lugosch Architect, Inc., an ongoing, award winning, practice focused on residential architecture. Lugosch Architect has provided a venue to bring architectural research into practice. Current projects focus on the design, construction, and distribution of environmentally progressive housing including issues of alternative materials and environmental systems, attainable housing, assembled homes, integration of environmental and architectural BIM softwares, and retrofitted renovations.
