Dr. Kathleen Biebel, Ph.D., is a Research Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and the
Assistant Director of Operations at the UMMS Center for Mental Health Services Research
(CMHSR). She has served as PI, Co-Investigator, and Evaluator on SAMHSA/CMHS, NIMH and
foundation-funded projects focused on adults with serious mental illness, community
integration, and family life. Her work has also focused on dissemination and
implementation of mental health policy and programs. Dr. Biebel has worked for
SAMHSA/CMHS as a Family-Centered Care Consultant, advising policy-makers and federal
program officers on policy initiatives regarding families living with mental illness. In
her role as Assistant Director of Operations at the CMHSR, Dr. Biebel oversees
collaborations between UMMS and the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health (MA/DMH),
while maintaining a special focus on bridging science to service, and translating and
disseminating research findings to inform policy and intervention development. She is
currently leading a working partnership with MA /DMH, and the UMMS's Department of
Psychiatry, Lamar Soutter Library, and the Mental Health Agency Research Network to
redesign the CMHSR web-based dissemination efforts. This initiative is focused on
producing usable and useful web-based products specifically for behavioral health
consumers, family members, and providers. Dr. Biebel provides ongoing expertise and
support to the CMHSR faculty and staff for grant writing, data analysis, interagency
workgroups, and program evaluation.
