Professor Karla McKanders joined the faculty at the University of Tennessee College
of Law in the Fall of 2008, where she is teaches in the Advocacy Clinic. Professor
McKanders received her J.D. from Duke University School of Law in Durham, NC and her B.A.
from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. Prior to joining the faculty at the University
of Tennessee, she was a Reuschlein Clinical Teaching Fellow with the Clinic for Clinic
for Asylum, Refugee & Emigrant Services at Villanova University School of Law. Prior
to her fellowship, she was a law clerk for Damon J. Keith with the Sixth Circuit Court of
Appeals and an Associate with Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone in the Labor and
Employment Practice Group. Professor McKanders is a speaker and panelist for legal
symposia, academic conferences, bar association conferences, speaking about immigration
and asylum law.
