<title>Police Use of Firearms in China: An Overview of Regulatory Framework</title>

<description>Police or public security (Gongan) in the People's Republic of China (hereinafter P.R.C. or China) are given extensive power to execute their duties, the most formidable of which is the right to bear arms (PRC Measures for the Control of Weapons 1980: Chapter 3) and use deadly force  (Provisions for the Use of Weapons 1980: Article 3).  To date, other than occasional reports of egregious cases of police illegal use of firearms (or "guns" or "deadly force") in the news, there is little accessible data and few published research on police use of deadly force in China.   This chapter is a first attempt to provide for an overview of the legal framework regulating the police use of firearms in China</description>
