Professor Xi received his BESc from Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing, China in 1982, his MESc from TsingHua University, Beijing, China in 1985 and his PhD from the University of Wollongong, in 1996 all in the field of electrical engineering. From 1985, Professor Xi spent six years at Zhengzhou University as a Lecturer and Associate Professor. He was an Associate Lecturer at the University of Wollongong while working on his Ph.D thesis from 1992 to 1995. Upon completing the PhD thesis in Oct 1995 Professor Xi went to Canada and spent one year as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Communications Research Laboratory, McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario. From 1996 to 1998 Professor Xi was a Member of the Technical Staff at Bell Laboratories, Lucent Technologies in New Jersey, USA. Then he was a lecturer at the University of Wollongong during the period from 1998 to 2000 and The Chief Technical Officer of TCL IT Group Co Ltd, in Shenzhen, China from 2000 to 2002. Professor Xi re-joined the University of Wollongong as a Senior Lecturer in 2003, and was promoted to the level of Associate Professor in 2005.
