About Julia E. Curry

Julia Curry grew up in Southern California after emigrating from Mexico with her mother and sister. She went to college as an Educational Opportunity Program student and graduated with a BA in Sociology from UCSB. Curry went to graduate school because she received encouragement and modeling from many magnificent teachers who taught her substance, skills and values. Curry earned a Ph.D. in Sociology in 1988 from the University of Texas at Austin with assistance from the American Sociological Association which supported her with a Minority Fellowship for the last two years of her program.
