A native of Chile, Juan Carlos Marín's own research interests are in the area of civil law and procedure. He earned his law degree summa cum laude from the Universidad de Chile, where he taught tort law and civil procedure. He earned his doctor of laws degree with highest honours from the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. He teaches at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México and regularly visits at the Universidad de Chile and the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez.
