A native of Mexico, José Ramón Cossío Díaz has written widely on diverse topics
including constitutional law, law and economics and moral theory. He was a law professor
and dean of the law school at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México before he
became a Supreme Court judge. He obtained a law degree with first-class honours from the
Universidad de Colima, a masters in law from the Centro de Estudios Constitucionales in
Madrid and a doctorate in law summa cum laude from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
A recipient of many awards, he has lectured, among others, at the Instituto Tecnológico y
de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, the
University of Houston, the University of California at San Diego, the London School of
Economics and Political Science (LSE), the Universidad de Chile, the University of
Michigan and at Yale and Stanford law schools.
