About Jon D. Carlson
After stints at the University of California (Davis & Merced) and the University of Aberdeen (in Scotland), I currently enjoy teaching Political Science at Madera College - California's newest (and rapidly growing) community college! It is a joy to be able to contribute to the growth and development of California's Central Valley - a region my children and I have come to call home.
This page mainly contains prior writing, research papers, and teaching support materials (e.g., syllabi). For research, my main field is International Relations, with a focus on political economy and globalization. I tend to focus on frontiers or edges of 'systems' or networks (knowledge systems, cultural groupings, or economic networks), which gives insight as to how those systems work and interact. This includes an interest in 'ocean politics' and standards of governance in areas beyond the territorial state. My cross-cultural interests also manifest through some work in non-western or comparative political thought. More recently, I am interested in technology and the peaceful use of robots/drones, specifically in agricultural applications.
