Professor Cannon received his J.D. from Villanova in 1962. Upon graduating from law
school, he studied at Georgetown University Law Center. He worked as an attorney for the
U.S. Department of Justice, Antitrust Division, and later served as a Captain in the U.S.
Army JAG Corps. Professor Cannon then practiced law in the Philadelphia area for six
years before joining the faculty in 1971.
Professor Cannon’s scholarly interests focus on labor and employment law. His articles
include several works contemplating the rights, powers and relationships of union and
non-union laborers and employers.
In addition to teaching courses on labor and employment law, Professor Cannon teaches
civil procedure and civil pretrial practice. He also serves as a faculty adviser to
students participating in externships with the National Labor Relations Board. Professor
Cannon has served on many University-wide committees such as the Faculty Senate,
Priorities Committee, and Faculty Affairs Committee. He is Reporter for the Local Rules
Advisory Committee of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of
Pennsylvania, and is a member of that court's Civil Justice Advisory Group. From
December, 1999, to March, 2002, he served as counsel to the Statewide Rules Committee of
the Pennsylvania Judicial Council.
