Professor John Alford leads the Melbourne Business School's public sector
management program, and is also jointly Professor of Public Sector Management at the
Australia and New Zealand School of Government. He teaches within the School's MBA
program and leads executive programs for senior public sector managers.
John's extensive research interests include strategic management in the public
sector, performance monitoring in government organisations, contracting and partnering,
and client-organisation relationships. He has also completed research into court
governance in Australia, and trust in public-private partnerships.
In addition to his academic credentials, John has been a manager in the Victorian
government, in industrial relations policy and change management. He has also served on
major government reviews of the structure of public transport and of public service
personnel management in Victoria.
John Alford is currently on extended secondment to ANZSOG.
