Treating Infidelity: Considering Narratives of Attachment

Abstract

This article will provide specific guidelines for treating infidelity, namely by working from a Narrative Therapy lens while incorporating basic tenets of Attachment Theory. Prior to articulating this treatment model, a review of the following will be presented: (a) factors impacting the proclivity towards infidelity including personal attachment styles; (b) a brief review of initial treatment considerations; and (c) a case example illustrating the use of Narrative Therapy and Attachment Theory as a model of treatment.
