I received my Master's Degree in Librarianship from the University of South
Carolina in 1982. Although the majority of my professional experience has been as a rare
book librarian, with emphasis on cataloging and bibliography, I have also served as
director of three public library systems and as a media specialist in a K-12 private
school. My areas of special interest are children's and young adult literature, both
historical and modern, and 19th century literature and publishing. Because of my
long-term interest in young adult literature, I have served as a reviewer for Voice of
Youth Advocates since 1983, reviewing one or two titles per month. I have also reviewed
German children's and young adult fiction for Scholastic Press.
