Wellness Overdue? Check in at the Weldon Library Wellness Station: Partners in Student Wellness
Student Wellness and Academic Libraries: Case Studies and Activities for Promoting Health and Success (2020)
Abstract
Student wellness is a priority at Western University and, as a central hub on campus, Western Libraries plays a key role in fostering mental health. To enhance the library’s contribution in promoting wellness, Western Libraries joined forces with Western’s Wellness Education Centre (WEC) and Psychological Services to launch the Weldon Library Wellness Station. This chapter will discuss the health and wellness environment at Western Libraries, the partnership between Western Libraries, the WEC, and Psychological Services, and the evolution, evaluation, and assessment of the Wellness Station initiative. It will also examine sustainability and scalability challenges across a large academic library system and will propose strategies to turn these challenges into opportunities. Finally, this chapter will consider new methods of leveraging the partnerships and how, together, we can analyze and adjust our existing services and spaces to support mental health and wellness at Western Libraries.
